Kookaburras invade Year 1/2

Primary Teacher Mrs Tennille Davis has published her first children’s book, a delightful romp through the life of a kookaburra.

Students in Year 1 / 2 were blessed to be part of the first public reading in Geraldton by the newly-minted author of The Kookaburra Yap.

Mrs Davis said she wrote the book during COVID lockdown when she spent many hours watching the kookaburras on her in-laws’ rural property in NSW.

The story follows a day in the life of five mischievous kookaburras, detailing their characteristics, behaviour and diet in rhyming text.

There is a catchy tune, the kookaburra yap, which junior readers can pick up easily.

Mrs Davis wrote the book for fun but was encouraged by a school librarian to get it published.

International publisher Austin Macauley picked up the manuscript, added the illustrations and released it for sale through online book sellers.

They have also expressed their interest in Mrs Davis’ next book, which explores caring for, and the consequences of not caring for, the environment that God has created.
