Addison rides high

Year 9 student Addison is chasing her dream to become an international Motocross champion while completing school at the College.

It’s a big goal but she is well on the way to success. Currently ranked fifth in Australia in her age group, she recently won a place in the Elite Training Program in Perth.

To keep her position, Addison – the only girl in the program – is required to retain her good school grades.

And Deputy Principal Curriculum Mrs Sophie de Lange said teachers were keen to support Addison’s family in their wish for her to avoid full-time online study.

“The College adopted an innovative flexi-learning approach to help Addison follow her dream,” Mrs de Lange said.

“She spends one week in Geraldton studying at school and one week in Perth studying via Canvas.”

Addison’s mum Jo said the school had been very accommodating, with teachers setting work on Canvas that enables Addison to continue her learning without interruption.

The next challenge is the National Motocross Championship in September in Bunbury, where Addison will have a slight advantage because she is familiar with the track.

Her goal, after graduating high school, is to be a professional Motocross rider which, for women, means a move to Europe.

Incredibly, she may get her first taste next year when Darwin hosts one round of the competition and she aims to compete via an early exemption to race as a junior in a senior world class.

Go Addison! We are so proud of you.
