Maths students learn benefits of networks

Year 12 students in Maths Applications have gained real-life skills that help save time, cut fuel use and increase efficiency.

Maths Secondary Teacher Mrs Jeanine Evers said the students had studied using networks to solve practical problems like planning the shortest route between places.

“Students have learned about different ways to represent and analyse networks – a skill that is relevant for the day-to-day operation of many businesses,” she said.

“It helps cut costs by minimising the total distance involved and improves customer satisfaction by cutting the time taken.

“A practical application for young people is in planning an overseas trip. Networks can help find the most efficient travel routes, helping cut your carbon footprint by reducing the use of fuel.”
