Week 2 Term 3

Posted by Fiona Davidson

We have had a great start to the new term. Even though it’s our first week back at school, we call this Week 2 (the Pupil Free Week is Week 1 to avoid confusion when we are organising things with other schools).

NEW Kindy Nature Play Area

Many children and parents have been taking advantage of the upgraded Kindy Nature Play area this week, which is awesome! We had contractors at the College over the holidays working to finish the area, ready for the beginning of term.

A reminder that children MUST be actively supervised by parents before/after school in the Kindy playground please – and we ask that you leave the playground area by 8.40am on Kindy days (Tues, Wed & Thurs). You are most welcome to have children playing after school, but allow time for Kindy children to be collected by parents before you enter the area to avoid congestion.

Interschool Surfing Championships

Bright & early on Monday morning, 27th July, six Strathalbyn Christian College students competed in the Sun Smart Schools Surf Championships, held at Back Beach.

Grace C, Imogen T, Macklin H, James P, Kristian S & Daniel L formed a team, competing against other Midwest schools including Leaning Tree, Champion Bay Senior High School, Geraldton Senior High School, Geraldton Grammar, Kalbarri District High School & Nagle Catholic College.

Congratulations to Grace, Imogen, Macklin and James, who all came second in their division for bodyboarding and gave a massive effort in their surfing categories.

I am very proud of the whole team who came Runner Up to Nagle Catholic College in this Mid West regional round.  All the students handled themselves amazingly well in beautiful – but trying – conditions.

We would love to see more teams in the competition next year!

YEAR 9 Design Technology

Back in Term 1 this year, Year 9 students researched, designed and then constructed a Wooden Robot according to their own design brief. They followed step by step instructions to achieve their intended design.

Don’t they look amazing? Well done!

~ Mr Hayden Scally, Design Technology Teacher

YEAR 7 Food Technology

Yesterday we had an excess of tomatoes from the school garden delivered.

I did a quick lesson with the Year 7’s, teaching them how to make a delicious tomato pasta sauce (in addition to their usual weekly cooking).

It was a lovely impromptu, practical lesson that took full advantage of our school garden. We are so blessed to have lovely fresh produce to use.

~ Mrs Janelle Phillips, Food Technology Teacher

STRATH LIONS

Strath Lions Soccer had their first matches last weekend.

This is the Strath Lions U8’s receiving a pep talk from their Coach Mrs Huia Woods-Smith. The team went on to win 19-2.

WHAT’S COMING UP?

Don’t forget to check the College Calendar regularly to see what’s coming up.

REMEMBER to book appointments for Parent/Teacher Meetings being held next Tuesday (Primary) and Wednesday (Secondary) in the College Hall. Bookings close the day before, to give teachers time to prepare for the meetings. You can book online through the Sentral Parent Portal.

We have Secondary Athletics Carnival on Friday 14 August (letter will be sent home on Monday with details) and Primary Athletics Carnival on Wed 19 August.
