An Aboriginal artwork entitled Faith, Family, Culture and Hope has been gifted to the College as a family’s way of saying thank you.
Mr Joshua Joseph, who painted the artwork, said he was thankful to the College for its faith-based teachings and for the support shown to his family.
“Understanding that faith is first and foremost a concept of Christ and his teachings, I really wanted to thank the school for acknowledging that and understanding that,” he said.
He said the College had also helped him as a Christian to share his Aboriginal culture with the community, in a strong and positive way that honoured Jesus.
Mr Joseph’s painting is rich in meaning, expressing his faith in Jesus and how unity is found in Him.
Occupying the centre of the painting is the Trinity – Father, Son and Holy Spirit – demonstrating how they are “so unified and work with us every day of our life in Christ”.
Jesus is depicted in purple, representing his robe and office as King.
The top section – with Aboriginal symbols for man and woman – represent Mr Joseph, his wife Emily and the children (four daughters and a son).
Spanning out from the centre is Jesus’ cross.
“It shows how I want my people to come together in Christ and how all things can be done through Christ who strengthens us,” Mr Joseph said.
The colour selection in the painting is also important.
“The green shows us how He leads us to lay down in green pastures,” Mr Joseph said.
“The brown, white and black … all different cultures coming together into the unity of Christ.”
Acting Principal Sophia de Lange said she felt humbled to receive the gift on behalf of the College.
“It humbles me to think that the College made such a big difference in your lives and lives of your children,” she said.
“It is a wonderful blessing to see that appreciation – that the College does make a difference and gives hope.
“That is my deep hope, that the College will continue to give hope to people who know there is no other solution than Jesus Christ, our Lord and Saviour.
“That is the future for our children – to have hope that is grounded in Jesus.”
