Toolkit powers students

Year 6 students now have a ‘toolkit’ of Buz Power tools to help with personal and group strength and resilience.

They have completed a nine-week program that helps develop social and emotional strength, learning skills such as bouncing back, making good choices, overcoming fear of failure, solving problems and believing they can make a difference within themselves and in group situations.

Primary Student Support Counsellor Mrs Theresa Pomery ran the course to prepare the group of 40 students for their week-long trip to Canberra.

“For many students it’s the first time they have been away from family for such a long time and for such a distance, and so teachers wanted to help them prepare with tools for resilience and communication.

“The Buz Power Course culminated in a ‘Saving the World’ group challenge that was quite complex.

“I was amazed at how well the students worked together, even though they were put into groups that were a little out of their comfort zone because they weren’t necessarily together with their friends.”
