Year 12 Ball

Year 12 students all had a wonderful time dancing the night away last Saturday evening at their Ball. What an excellent way to finish their educational journey at the College.

The Ball Committee, made up of parents of Year 12 students, did an outstanding job of decorating the College Hall — with an “Under the Sea” theme. It looked amazing!

Mermaids made an appearance at the Ball, courtesy of All Things Dance.

We pray God’s richest blessings over the Year 12 students’ lives and futures as they leave school and venture out into the World.

~ Gavin Hirschhausen, Principal

Art – Genesis Exhibition

Last week we were notified some of our students’ artwork had been selected and included in the Geraldton Regional Art Gallery’s Genesis Exhibition.

The shortlisted students were:

Ella Lamb (Year 7), Portia James-Wallace (Year 8), Jamelia Baron (Year 9), Melanie Frahm (Year 10), and Ashley Jamieson (Year 11).

The opening night, held on Friday the 20th of November, had awards presented to each year level, with guests having the opportunity to vote for their favourite artwork. We are very proud of Ella Lamb who took out the Year 7 prize with her fantastic MAMBO inspired Kangaroo sculpture.

Also pictured below is Portia at the opening night, standing with her sculpture, a clay clog-style shoe.

The exhibition showcases students work from each secondary school in Geraldton and runs from the 21st of November to the 12th of December at the Geraldton Regional Art Gallery – we encourage you to go down and have a look at the amazing work on display!

A huge congratulations to each student included in the show, glorifying God with their creative gifts, and representing artistic talent here at Strathalbyn Christian College.

Music

Don’t forget to enter the Christmas Piano Competition. Entries close next Wednesday.

Garden Market Day

We had our most successful garden market day yet with the Strath Made Lemonade being a huge hit. There was a lot of parent-student interaction with wheeling and dealing, which is practical economics, acts of service and good old fashioned fun all rolled into one!

A big shout out to all my amazing lunchtime helpers who worked tirelessly squeezing, mixing, chopping, bottling and foraging to bless our Strath families with our garden produce. Special mention to Connor who was our eye-catching carpark advertiser with the poster strapped to his body. No photo unfortunately but it was a great marketing strategy initiative.

Helpers: Mitchell, Isaac, Leah-May, Bregje, Reuben, Pandji, Lily, Connor, Tilly and Keely

Kindy Foodbank Visit

In the lead up to Christmas, we collected cans and packets of food to deliver personally to Foodbank, having a tour of the facility while we were there.  This consolidated what we have been learning about being God’s hands and feet, to our community and beyond, with whatever we have been given.

We loved going inside the HUGE fridge and freezer, and weighing everyone on the scales! Foodbank blesses many people in our community and it was lovely to see and hear how they help others.  We delivered 50kg of food which will feed 100 people!  Awesome effort Kindy families.

~ Mrs Quenby Fabian, Kindy Teacher

Year 5 Food & Fibre Production

The Year 5 class made seed bombs this week. They added a variety of seeds to a mixture of clay, compost and water, then rolled them into balls. The students will plant the bombs, which will explode with life!

~ Miss Kate Wheat, Food & Fibre Production Teacher

Scitech

The Scitech team from Perth visited the College today to give presentations to Primary students, who were enthralled.

Ben Phillips, one of our Wholistic Land Management staff, snapped this picture of a pink & grey galah enjoying one of the nesting boxes made by current Year 11 students in 2020. We have a variety of different nesting boxes around College grounds for birds and possums.

Could you please check if you have the wrong swag and contact Jeremy 0437 727 077 to arrange a swap.
