Bike-a-thon and Mountain Bike Track Official Opening

We have a busy day planned at the College tomorrow with the Bike-a-thon happening from 1.00-2.30pm, and the Mountain Bike Track Official Opening from 3.00-8.00pm.

Information about both events has been emailed to parents/guardians today. We hope you will all come along and support these great community-building events.

Primary Interschool Cross Country

Last Friday 11 September, selected Primary students competed in the annual Interschool Cross Country Carnival.

Our students showed great courage in all of their races, and there were some well deserved personal victories.

The College received third place overall in the Greenough Division with two of our students achieving second place in their races. Congratulations to Leah-May Labuschagne (Year 4) and Isaac Honeychurch (Year 4).

It was encouraging to see how all the students supported each other and the athletes from the other schools. During one of our motivational speeches, one of our students voiced that we should always run to reach the finish line because God is our finish line.

Thank you very much to Louise Ellis-Smith who assisted me at the Carnival as a parent helper.

~ Mr Johan Boonzaier, Primary Sports Coordinator

Colouring Competition

College Chaplain, Miss Kate Arthur, organises a Colouring Competition for Primary students during term time.

Students have an opportunity to win a $5.00 Canteen Voucher.

Lexi R (Year 2) and Rachel S (Year 4) were the winners with their “Joseph and his coat of many colours” pictures recently.

Strath Hockey

Strathalbyn Christian College had a fantastic season this year in the Sub Junior Hockey Games. Our school was able to register a division 1 (Yr 5-6), division 2 (Yr 3-4) and half field (Pre-Primary-Yr2) team for this short 8 week season. Each player played with enthusiasm, great sportsmanship and self-discipline, both on and off the field every week.

Our results are a great indication of the players’ attitude with every game: Division 1 achieved second place and Division 2 received the overall Championship title.

Thank you to Brendon Dodd and Carla van Tonder for coaching our little ones. All the best to our Yr 6 players that will be moving into clubs next year.

For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline”  2 Timothy 1:7

Policy Change – Bring Your Own Device Secondary

In recognition of the level of financial stress that many of our College families are under during Covid times, and in an attempt to remove as many financial barriers as possible for existing and potential College families, the ICT Committee has recently reviewed the Bring Your Own Device Student Use Policy (formerly iPad and MacBook Student Use Policy).

The following changes have been adopted:

  • All secondary students, from Years 7-12 may use a laptop at school (previously Year 7-9 students were limited to iPads only).
  • Windows laptops and tablets may used by Secondary students, provided they meet specified minimum requirements (see page 2 of this letter).
  • iPads and MacBooks may continue to be used by students, if this is the family preference.

We hope that these changes will be helpful to our families into the future.

Specifications for devices are listed in the Policy. If you are unsure about device specifications, we strongly advise that you contact the College before purchasing to avoid the frustration and consequence of your child being prevented from using their device at school (if it does not meet College requirements).

If you have any queries or comments, please send these to helpdesk@scc.wa.edu.au.
