Secondary Swimming Carnival

Students in Years 7-12 have had a wonderful time at the Swimming Carnival today at the Geraldton Aquarena.

Congratulations to DANIEL HOUSE who were Overall Champions. We will post more comprehensive results early next week.

Bella & Stacia – Daniel House Captains

Thank you to all of our awesome parents who put their hand up to assist at the Carnival – without you, it would be very difficult to have the day running smoothly. Many thanks to our fantastic staff who always go above and beyond … covering the many tasks that need to be done to have a successful Carnival. EXTRA SPECIAL THANKS to Mr Andre Steenekamp for once again bringing together a fabulous Carnival. There is a lot of work that goes in beforehand to ensure that the day runs smoothly for everyone.

Mr Jared Grimsley had his camera at the Carnival today. We are sharing a few photos here (click on tiles to see larger images), and will make more available to parents next week.

Science & Engineering Challenge – Helpers Needed

The Science and Engineering Challenge Day (Wednesday 20th May, 2019) is an interschool competition for Year 9 & 10 students that is designed to encourage the students to take the requisite subject selections in high school to be able to pursue a career in a STEM field.

The Science and Engineering Discovery Day (Thursday 21st May, 2019) is like the Challenge but aimed at Year 5 & 6 students (but caters for year 3 – 6 students) to make them aware of the role of science and engineering in the world around us.

Both days involve eight teams/schools of 32 students for a whole day of activities. The competition is run by a team from the University of Newcastle and there are typically eight activities running simultaneously. Each of these eight activities need two or three volunteers to run, manage and judge the tasks. You don’t need to be a Scientist or Engineer to volunteer, simply common sense and a sense of humour will be enough for you to have a great day. Activities involve many aspects of engineering, design, technology and science.

Parents, friends and community members are encouraged to volunteer. Without our awesome volunteers this event could not run.

If you could help, please complete the volunteer form.

Bethany Hamilton – Unstoppable Movie

BETHANY HAMILTON: UNSTOPPABLE tells the story of surfer Bethany Hamilton, who at age 13 was out surfing when she was attacked by a 15-foot tiger shark, a run-in that cost Hamilton her left arm. But not only did Hamilton survive the attack, she was back on the competitive surfing circuit less than a year later.

More than a decade later, Hamilton, now a mother, undertakes her greatest challenge: chasing a toddler and the biggest wave of her career. BETHANY HAMILTON: UNSTOPPABLE is the untold story of the heart of a champion and her resilience against all odds to become one of the leading professional surfers of our time. Bethany Hamilton is continuously rewriting the rules on being a fearless athlete, and brings new meaning to the phrase “surfs like a girl.”

Film Harvest Midwest, Wed 25 March 2020, 6.15pm at Geraldton Orana Cinema. Book tickets online.
